HybriForce-3400 GEN-3, a new hybrid alfalfa introduced by Dairyland Seed, boasts up to a 5% yield bump over Dairyland’s HybriForce-2400 GEN-2, and will be available in limited quantities for 2014 spring planting. The company says HybriForce-3400 GEN-3 also shows a 12.3% yield advantage over competitive alfalfas in 21 university trials in seven states. Hybrid alfalfas, developed using technology patented by Dairyland Seed, are first-generation crosses between two unique parent lines. The hybrids maintain the yield of those lines by controlling pollination.
“Growers can feel confident when choosing HybriForce-3400 GEN-3, as it is very closely related to GEN-2, but with a significant parental change that provides the 5% boost in yield,” says Steve Wagner, Dairyland alfalfa plant breeder. The fall dormancy 4 variety is highly resistant to most major alfalfa diseases, and maintains the uniformity, palatability and good leaf-to-stem ratio that the company’s other HybriForce products provide, says Tim Clark, forage product manager.

USDA has issued a Veterinary Biological License for Viralign 6®, the first combination modified-live virus (MLV) vaccine to provide targeted protection against bovine viral diarrhea (BVD) virus 1b — the most predominant BVD virus strain in the U.S. Marketed by Elanco, Viralign 6 also provides protection against BVD viral strains 1a and 2, bovine respiratory syncytial virus (BRSV), infectious bovine rhinotracheitis (IBR) virus and parainfluenza3 (PI3) virus.
Carl Guthrie, DVM and director of Elanco beef technical services, says Viralign 6 is the first USDA-approved MLV vaccine to include antigens for all three major BVD viruses, including 1b. Viralign 6 enables low-volume, subcutaneous administration in cattle 5 months of age or older, and is available in 10- and 50-dose packages through veterinarians and animal-health distributors.

Vermeer introduces a mower conditioner line that combines productivity, flexibility and convenience into one powerful package. The three models available — MC2800, MC3300 and MC3700 — offer operators the unit best for their operation.
At the heart of the new units is the modular, shaft-driven Q3™ Cutter Bar that helps fuel efficiency with minimal gear-to-gear interface, requiring less horsepower than gear bed-style cutter bars. Practical innovations, including the Quick-Clip® Blade Retention System and Quick-Change™ Shear Ring, make changing blades and repairing a sheared device quick and simple.
The new mower conditioners also are equipped with a nitrogen-charged accumulator suspension system to provide a consistent weight on the cutter bar throughout the full range of motion. And operators can easily customize suspension settings for their specific field conditions with a simple turn of a lever.
A choice of steel roller or V-tine conditioner is available on all models, while multiple swath adjustments give users more control over their windrow formation. In addition, the line offers cutting widths of 9.1 ft. on the MC2800, 10.5 ft. on the MC3300 and 12 ft. on the MC3700.

Featherlite’s Model 8271 stock hauler combines the best features of semi and gooseneck stock trailers. Designed for farmers and ranchers, who often need to haul a herd of cattle in as few trips and with as little hassle as possible, the Model 8271 combines the chassis of a 40-ft. semi stock trailer with an all-aluminum subframe and a gooseneck hitch.
A lack of internal fenders further increases the Model 8271’s carrying capacity. The gooseneck hitch not only improves maneuverability, but also allows the unit to be hauled by a wider variety of vehicles than a trailer with a semi hitch would allow. The trailer can be customized with options that include halogen load lights, colored side sheets and aluminum wheels.
